Basement waterproofing in Hammonds Plains

Hammonds Plains developed fast, and it developed on difficult ground.

The subdivisions here (Kingswood, Haliburton Hills, Westwood Hills, Voyageur Lakes) were largely built by cutting and filling across a landscape of shallow granite bedrock and irregular terrain. That produces house lots where part of the foundation may bear on undisturbed ground or rock and part on engineered fill.

Fill and native ground consolidate at different rates. Differential settlement across a foundation is the result, and it is the leading cause of the cracking we see in the fifteen-to-thirty-year-old housing stock here. These are frequently the cracks that warrant a closer look rather than a simple injection: a crack showing displacement, where one face sits proud of the other, is telling you the wall has moved.

Shallow bedrock also affects drainage the same way it does in Fall River: water hits rock and travels sideways. On a cut lot with rock behind the house, that water arrives at the uphill wall with nowhere else to go.

Lots are large, which means exterior work is usually feasible and discharge routing is usually straightforward. Most properties are on well and septic.
